1Overview
The Arx Command

Every AutoCAD and Architectural Desktop Author knows that you can't rely on the Help Menu, On-line sources or those thin update guides issued by Autodesk to list every single command that the programmers may have slipped into the latest release.  Most users know that you can type "SetVar" to access a list of all the AutoCAD system variables but it appears that few know about the "Arx" command so here's the scoop on this command.

The List

On the command line, type "Arx".  Once you have Entered this command, you should see the following prompt:  "Enter an option [?/Load/Unload/Commands/Options]:"  for this set of options, type the letter "C" for "Commands" and you will get a list so long it will take several screen pages to get to the end.

Illustrated to the right are some samples of my Architectural Desktop 2004 Arx Command list.  At the top are some items that really aren't the classic form of commands so you won't be able to type them on the command line but most of the items listed are actually commands.

This is how I discovered the WHOHAS command.  It will let you know if a drawing file is currently Open on someone's machine which is basically the same information you get when you try to Open and the get that "Read Only" Warning Alert dialog.

So if you didn't know about this feature in AutoCAD, Architectural Desktop and all of the other AutoCAD flavors, now you can impress you coworkers with all sorts of wacky keyboard commands.
